Florida Atlantic University Center for
Complex Systems and Brain Sciences

University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers is in close collaboration with FAU Complex Systems and Brain Sciences whose objective is to understand the principles and mechanisms underlying complex behavior on all levels, from molecules and cells to whole brain functioning. The range of research at the Center is both broad and deep, from the cellular basis of memory and sleep to the brain mechanisms underlying perception, attention, learning, memory, decision-making and movement. University MRI provides imaging equipment, staff and physicians who assist in bridging clinical and basic research into neurological disorders including stroke, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, and learning disabilities. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a recent noninvasive imaging technology that is being used to identify and study regions in the brain that are activated during the performance of particular tasks. In contrast to conventional MRI scans showing brain structure, fMRI provides information about brain function. Such understanding is crucial to the anticipation, treatment and rehabilitation of the many neurological diseases and disorders that afflict society from early childhood to old age.
