Capsule Endoscopy FAQ
Preparing for Capsule Endoscopy

How do Camera Capsule Endoscopy results compare to those from other endoscopy exams?

Data recently released in clinical trials from German and French research groups involved more than 140 patients. Results demonstrated a statistically significant increased diagnosis rate for capsule endoscopy compared to push-endoscopy. In another German study, M2A Capsule Endoscopy was conducted on 50 patients suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding of unknown origin, chronic diarrhea and abdominal pain or had suspected findings in previous radiological procedures. It was found that M2A yielded positive diagnoses in about 80 percent of the cases. USA studies conducted at the Mayo Clinic released similar findings.

How are Capsule Endoscopy results reviewed?

At University MRI, images are reviewed and interpreted by a Board Certified Gastroenterologist who has received special capsule endoscopy training. A full report is then prepared and sent to the referring physician.
