Preparing for Ultrasound

What happens at an Ultrasound exam?

When a patient is scheduled to have an Ultrasound exam, they are asked to wear a patient gown and positioned by a registered technician on the exam table. A transmission gel will be applied to the body part that will be examined. A transducer (a small hand held device) is moved slowly over the body part being imaged producing a light pressure on your skin.

The ultrasound images will appear on a monitor similar to a computer screen and are recorded on film, or high quality photographic paper, for a detailed study.
