Preparation - P.E.T.

P.E.T. Scan Preparations
-You should not eat or drink (except water) for at least 6 hours before your test and no caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol for at least 12 hours before.

- Avoid strenuous exercise for at least one day prior to the P.E.T. Scan.

- Drink at least 2 large glasses of water (32 ounces) the day before the exam.

- Please call us with all medications you are taking. Some medications can interfere with the exam. We will advise you whether or not it should be taken the day of the exam. If you have been advised not to take your medications on an empty stomach, eat nothing more than a few soda crackers within 6 hours of your exam.

- Please contact the center if you are diabetic, pregnant or nursing.

- If you are an insulin dependent diabetic, you may eat toast with a small amount of juice and take your insulin at least 2 hours before your exam. NOTE: Blood sugar levels must be below 200 at time of the exam.

- Patients must have a written physician prescription.

Cardiac P.E.T. Scan Preparations
-Must eat a high sugar and high carbohydrate meal the night before unless you are diabetic. If you are diabetic, then please contact the center for details.
